Getting To Marfa

Marfa Texas

Dare You

People often come to Marfa on a dare.

And it is an adventure to get here. We think that makes the experience that much more special.

Marfa Theatre Incubator offers an excuse for that perfect Texas roadtrip. We look forward to your arrival.

By Car

If you live in Texas, it’s probably easiest to drive. If you don’t live in Texas, it also might be easiest to drive.

With stops, we’re a half-day’s drive from El Paso, Midland, Lubbock, and San Angelo, a full-day’s drive from from Austin, Dallas, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque, and a long-day’s drive from Houston, Texarkana, and Tucson.

The road warriors among us can make the drive from LA or San Diego in a day.

Electric Car Drivers: Once you get off I-10, charging stations diminish. Marfa is 75 miles south of I-10—one way. We’re a bit behind the times out here, so bear that in mind when preparing for your trip.

By Train

Amtrak stops 30 minutes away in Alpine, Texas. If you don’t want to drive, train travel is the most direct way to get to Marfa, if you’ve got the time.

Uber and Lyft offer local rides to get you from the train station to Marfa.

By Air – Commercial

El Paso International airport is a 3-hour drive from Marfa. The Midland-Odessa airport is roughly the same. The drive from El Paso is more scenic.

By Air – Charter

The Marfa Municipal Airport can accommodate small airplane and charter jet travel. If this is an option for you, contact them at (432) 729-3102.

Where To Stay

Hotel Paisano is the official hotel of Marfa Theatre Incubator. As the base for the 1956 film Giant, which housed Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean during their time shooting the film, the Paisano has long been a home to actors and people in the performing arts. We are so grateful to this historic hotel for opening its doors—and its heart—to our work.

The Paisano has room blocks at competitive rates for all of our events—plus plenty of amenities for the weary traveler. When planning your trip to study at Marfa Theatre Incubator, reach out to Vicki, Paul, Misty and the rest of the staff at Hotel Paisano. They’ll make you feel right at home.

In addition, Marfa boasts many lodging options from high-end boutique hotels to AirBnBs, from RV parks to rustic glamping. We thank you for patroning the many wonderful hotels and campgrounds—as well as the restaurants, museums, galleries and shops—during your stay in Marfa.

We’re all neighbors here and we rely on each other. Thanks for spreading the love.

If you have any questions about travel, shoot an email to play@marfatheatreincubator.com. We’d love to hear from you!
